Re: Apple Game Server - updates
> Cool about the TCP/IP, any support for Uthernet coming?
Uthernet doesn't have any boot rom or built-in TCP/IP stack. Because
of this, it would require sending a large chunk of code over to get
that working. ADT Pro is probably a better suited application for
Uthernet since the transfer of data is meant only to copy data from
host to apple. AGS is meant to be a runtime translation layer of
sorts.
I can say, very safely at that, that I've made significant progress.
As soon as I can get some packaging finished, I plan to release
another beta with support for DOS 3.3 disk images that use the DOS 3.3
RWTS routines and the standard DOS 3.3 boot sector. This means a lot
of games won't work past a certain point, or at all. That's not to
say they can't be made to work later, but each game has its own OS
basically. And to date, I've only had the time to get Dos 3.3
working, and left the doors open to implement your own variations if
you so choose.
Some titles that I've booted over serial:
Arcade Boot Camp
Jungle Hunt
Chipwits
Impossible Mission
Aztec
Any disk full of single-load games
Some titles that haven't worked:
Karateka
Sierra Games (any)
Ultima (any)
Some games that might work, but am unsure:
Mr. Do (gets past Joystick calibration)
Boulderdash (gets to title screen)
Oregon Trail (can't see why it wouldn't work -- it was definitely dos
3.3!)
I've generalized my RWTS replacement to be relocated anywhere in ram,
but for the most part seems to always be loaded at BD00 in working
titles. Much work remains to be done before a beta release can
happen. Most notably, AGS doesn't have a real UI to speak of, and the
way disk loading has been implemented isn't tied in to the rest of the
game selection menu logic yet. So, work is cut out for me at the
moment but if you really must see for yourself then grab the latest
from the sourceforge SVN for the project.
Much thanks to Nick for his continued help testing this beast and
generous donation of time and ideas. :-)
