This is how I got involved in AppleCommander. I needed cross-platform, command-line Pascal support; it was easier to add features than start over.

The advantage over CiderPress will of course be portability because of
java, but it will need to match the features.

I admire Andy's decision to go open source. He's set a high standard, and CiderPress fans are loyal largely because of his continued efforts.

In my case, I'm "loyal" because CiderPress does virtually *everything*
I need to do, without any continuing efforts!  I've never seen any piece
of Apple II-related software that was as comprehensive in its scope and
as fast working on large volumes.

At this point, any "continuing efforts" are icing on the cake!  (And
very welcome icing, I rush to point out, Andy!  ;-)
