When I attempt to install the RAMFast card with the TWGS in the system
it always chokes or hangs.  I could never even get to the RAMFast
setup screen by holding down "0" during startup.  Here are the system
specs:



Rom 03
TWGS, with updated GALs, in slot 4
RAMFast D, with 1 meg cache, in slot 7
Sequential Systems 4 meg card
AppleTalk/IRQ set to ON
TWGS Installed set to Yes in RAMFast Options



I removed the TWGS and put a stock CPU in and was able to get that to
work.  Any suggestions on how to get the RAMFast and TWGS to play
nice?  I did try a few different slots without success and then got
exasperated with the whole thing.

I have nearly the same setup:



ROM 3
stock TWGS (slot 3)
Ramfast rev D (slot 7)
Sequential Sytems 4 meg



I also have a 384 meg Focus (slot 6), a Uthernet (slot 4), a VOC (slot
5) and a Prograppler (slot 1) in there. Crowded, but everything works
great. Are you using the original power supply? I used to have
problems before I got an ATX,

Well, it may help and it may not. I don't know if those few cards
would pull that much power. If I were you, I'd wait until I heard from
the other guys on this site. They're a mine of information and they
may have another (better) solution for your problem. They've seen it
all.


I agree that swapping the power supply is a good idea.

The TWGS is a power hog, and that alone might cause one to suspect
power problems, but any power supply can be marginal--meaning that it
wooks fine until you load it a little more than it can handle.

In this case, since the TWGS works fine until the RAMFast is added,
the change in load is only the addition of the RAMFast, which is not
a high-powered card.  Still, that additional load may be the straw
that breaks the camel's back.


As far as my power supply setup goes, I got the LittlePower adaptor
from Reactive and pulled an ATX supply out of an old PC. Quick, cheap
and painless. I went external, but Reactive has a source for a small
supply that fits inside the case.


And any known-good power supply with ample capacity (any modern supply)
should serve either to fix the problem or to demonstrate that the
power supply is not the problem.
