Unfortunately, that won't help.

You will have to (at least) get the monitor into monochrome
mode to have a chance of reading 80-column text.

I thought it was the ROM 01 that was not switching back to
monochrome and the ROM 3 worked as you intended...

If this is the case, then it may be possible to fix it to
reduce the 3.58MHz leak-through.

A very simple but possibly annoying workaround would be
to unplug the video from the monitor (or IIgs) for a few
seconds, then re-plug it.

(BTW, if that doesn't return the monitor to monochrome mode,
then there may be some other problem.)
