In addition to the others mentioned in the thread, be sure to check out
CALL -A.P.P.L.E.'s "All About Applesoft".  It's not for beginners but
rather for taking intermediate-level Applesoft programmers to the next
level.  Their "All About DOS" was also excellent if you want to do disk
access from your programs.

I don't know if they're still available -- perhaps as part of the CALL 
-A.P.P.L.E. CD collection?
