I've found that if hit the right way with a small hammer, they crack
open nicely.   The design while impervious to slamming on the keys
with great force, is strange and would, I think, be very difficult to
clean without opening up since the contacts themselves don't move.
Later keyboards that don't use these keyswitches are either easier to
service, or respond better to spray contact cleaners.

I agree about cleaning the contacts, but it sounds like he has a
friction problem at the sliding joint between the post and the
switch case.  Cleaning and lubrication could fix that with no
need to disassemble the keyboard or the switch.
