Re: Apple IIGS Cooling

.

So, I am wondering what you guys do and/or recommend for IIGS cooling.
I am planning to install (at least) a larger RAM card in the near
future, so it seems that my heat situation will probably only get
worse unless I do something about it.

Warmest Regards,
Rusty D.

I do not have my GS stuffed a lot, just a RAM+ and a CFFA but I was concerned about the heat build up in my GS as I have the drives and the Monitor on top of it.

I used a cheap fan and mounted it to the power supply.
It blows air from inside the GS into the Power supply and vents then through the top venting slits of the case. You can actually feel the air stream.

I also removed the aluminum top of the power supply as I figured out that the most heat is generated to the rear end of the power supply but the vent mounting is at the front and does not give good air circulation in the back.

Both allowed me to have the inside GS temperature 10C above the outside.
Even if the outside is 30C.

The only annoying thing is the noise but with some foam between the fan and the powers supply housing I damped it to an acceptable level. Acceptable in my terms is that every PC is unacceptable noisy and is therefore banned from my room.:-)
