The price didn't drop to $8.95 because it was selling like crazy. :-)
My initial thought was that, in a niche market, the difference between $10
and $20 wouldn't matter. Turns out I was wrong -- I had a big surge in
sales after the price drop.
This was the 1.x version, which didn't yet support CF cards (the "killer
app" of the Apple II emulator utility world), but I think US$10 is in the
"impulse buy" range for shareware utilities, while US$20 is not. I know
I've had similar reactions ("$30 for a CPU temperature monitor?!").
