Ok, I think two issues are being confused:

1. Booting of A2 from a Linux machine running netatalk (this is the one
   Marsha and I hacked on - uses free software).

2. Booting of A2 from an older Mac running Appletalk server (requires
   that you "somehow" acquire commercial software).

The transport media is a disjoint matter, since both of the these can 
tunnel through ethernet.
