PAL adapter?   Doesn't France use SECAM?  He'd really need a SECAM
adapter....

.... but quite soon (within a decade or two), PAL and SECAM will both
be history, since Europe right now is switching to digital TV
transmissions.  Then he'll need a DVB-T adapter instead.....
