My own bridging solution is only marginally better than sneakernet
because I lack dedicated hardware. I have a Mac IIci that has an
Ethernet card and (of course) the old round serial connectors. I can
hook the IIgs to the IIci and use Appletalk to talk between the serial
ports. I then can switch the IIci to do Appletalk over Ethernet (it
can't do both at the same time) and then an iMac running OS9 can see
the IIci's drive and connect to it. I haven't had any luck getting OSX
to see it. Once files are copied onto the OS9 iMac, I can use whatever
other more modern protocols I want to branch out from there.
That's all an interesting and fun academic exercise. If I /really/
want to move files, I use a CompactFlash card and a CFFA adapter in the
IIgs.
