Yeah - if you purchased a HD capable TV or projector pre-HDMI, you've
been royally screwed by this atrocity.
Although the resell value of such equipment may go up, as they're the
perfect companion to black market HDMI->VGA/DVI-I decoders once they
become obtainable.
I'm reminded of my pre-DVD days, when I used to use a macrovision
defeat (err, I mean "video enhancer") circuit purely to increase the
playback quality of purchased cassettes. Towards the end, the signal
flooding they were doing was so strong it would mess with normal
televisions.
At least back then you could buy a solution from legitimate retail
channels. No chance of that with the current tech.
