AeroPlayer can play AAC on any device that runs Palm OS 5.  I've used it on a
Tungsten T and a Treo 650.  Back when you could still crack iTunes downloads
(don't think you can anymore), I fixed my files to play that way.  (They're
now on an iPod, but they're still unprotected.)

If, by "hardware player," you mean something other than a PDA or cellphone,
I don't know.
