The version I'm examining looks easily capable of reading a
4x8 keyboard matrix, or a 16x8 matrix if the keyboard contains
an 'LS138 decoder...

Since the 61-key velocity-sensing keyboard contains 122 switches,
plus footpedals, there must have been some cleverness involved.  ;-)
