Re: Apple IIgs Monitor

Hi Guys,
in the marketplace newsgroup someone ask for AU$100 for a refurbished IIgs Monitor.

A bit too much, IMHO. Be patient and you can probably get one for less.

It has just popped into my mind and I have not done any googling on it but what happens if my monitor dies?

There's actually a fair bit of info on repairing them...but there are no new production monitors that I know of that will work. Check the Apple FAQ for a list of other monitors that can use the IIgs RGB out.

A high-end video production terminal might work :) The difficulty is that no modern monitor can shift to the very low horizontal scanrate used by the IIgs (~15khz).

Is there an easy way to connect a LCD to it like with the Apple II (Yes IIgs has the same output but I like the better graphics)

You must be thinking of the IIc, which had a very nonstandard LCD that is pretty rare.

Fortunately I have a spare one but just in case , is there a uncomplicated way to use the IIgs with a modern Monitor/TV?

Yes, that's the easiest solution. Just connect the RCA-style composite video out to the RCA video-in socket on the TV. The image quality will depend on the quality of the TV, though, and 80 column text may be blurry.

You can also use an Apple color composite monitor (which have perfectly good image quality, actually), or any other composite monitor. I THINK that the IIGS's more advanced graphics modes require the RGB out, though.

Thanks and sorry if this was discusses earlier, I just got freezed on the Idea and want to ask the question.

PS; Would also solve the ugly radiation from the original Monitor.
My Mac se and my eMac suffer from it.

What kind of radiation do you mean?
