Not if one used the EDD card, it can detect sequences of 0s. Re-write the software and I'll build a card to use it...

True--so now the project also involves people who want to capture
protected disk images getting a (presumeably newly manufactured)
EDD+ board...

I suppose if we continue to postulate hardware additions to both
the Apple II and the PC, then just about anything is possible.  ;-)

Perhaps the problem should be restated as "find the least complex
way of imaging and re-creating arbitrarily protected Apple II
disks with as little additional hardware investment as possible."

Or is this not the problem?
