Hi Andy, you may want to keep an eye out for Apple firmware cards. They
use the same type of ROM as the ][ and ][+. They show up on Ebay ever
now and then. They were usually setup for Applesoft or Integer BASIC
ROMs. If the seller doesn't know what the onboard firmware is, an
Integer BASIC set will frequently have an empty ROM socket in the
D000-F7FF space (was it the D8 ROM?) for a user supplied ROM. An
additional socket will be empty if Programmer's Aid isn't present
(D0?). I unfortunately don't know which monitor came with the Integer
firmware card. Also, IIRC, the firmware card can be jumpered for EPROMs
if you want to use it as a means to use the original firmware.
Alternatively, you could build an adaptor (or hack your motherboard)
and use 2K EPROMs burnt with the firmware of your choice. A potential
difficulty is that an adaptor can be bulky and obstruct slots.
Hmmmm... low profile EPROM adaptors for Apple II firmware might not be
a bad product for someone like Henry or Bill to carry.
