I was using an Apple RGB monitor with my IIgs, but then one day out of curiosity I plugged my 1702 Commodore monitor in to the composite jack and the picture was WAAAAAY better. So the Apple RGB monitor is on the trade pile. The 1702 is nice to have because you can use it with any composite signal, so I use mine for my IIgs, my Atari VCS, and I even bought the chroma/luma cables for use with my C64.
But there's no way that the composite signal will support color and 80-column text. The 1702 doesn't switch bandwidth for monochrome (no burst) signals like the Applecolor Composite monitor. And color transitions will be much lower bandwidth than any RGB interface will support. Games intended for composite color display will look great, but a hi-res color display, like the GSOS desktop, will look much worse. -michael New, faster SUDOKU v2.0 solver for Apple II's!
