So that would argue for tapping into the RGB lines *after* the DAC (which I think was your point). It's a minor input fiddle to deal with "digital RGB" or "analog RGB" inputs. Sync would be needed, of course, and the 14MHz dot clock. That should be enough to do the job perfectly.
