It's certainly a service to offer the system disks for sale. For most
new users, it's the way to go.  However, my religious beliefs preclude
surmounting a technical challenge by paying money.  That's tantamount
to buying your way into heaven.

I'm certainly a cheapskate, and proudly so, though I prefer the term
"thrifty". I guess that's considered un-Amercan by some these days.

Besides, it was a heck of a lot of fun figuring out how to get stuff
from the net onto my first Apple II.  ;-)
