Tonight I tried to open some ShrinkIt archives that had a .txt
suffix, but that were identical to the .shk version except for
file name.
Try this: in the "file types to open" pop-up menu, select "ShrinkIt
archives". That should tell it to assume the file is a ShrinkIt archive.
This does work, but has the disadvantage that all of the ".txt" files
disappear from the selection window, requiring you to type the name
by hand.
The problem is, in fact, failure to propagate the error code. For some
reason the disk image code decided that, despite having identified the
file as a ShrinkIt archive, it would continue to probe the various other
disk image formats.
Re: trouble opening ShrinkIt archives on read-only media. You can
probably circumvent the problem by checking the "read only" checkbox, since
NufxLib won't need a temporary file in that circumstance.
I also verified this one, by copying a ShrinkIt archive to a floppy disk
and write-protecting it. (The files on CD-ROM images are all coming up
read-only now -- did Microsoft finally fix their driver XP?)
I got a rather unhelpful "error=13", which maps to EACCES (permission
denied). You can work around it for now by checking the "read only" checkbox.
I should have some time this weekend to get these fixed.
