I agree that MacOS influenced Win95, but OS X shows most of all its
NeXT underpinnings, which while quite a large evolution from OpenStep
4.2, is still essentially has the same design ethos.

Even though it's now a 'movement', Linux does not have the same
directed development style as commercial systems, and tends to evolve
in many directions, some of which are unified into a product by the
distributions.
