what i use is a 'computer peripherals unlimited (cpu) inc.' iic system
clock. it plugs into the printer or modem port and has a plug-through to
connect the other peripheral into the box. it uses a battery to keep time
and works with appleworks and other programs. it was sold by applied
engineering of dallas texas. it doesn't need a slot and is an add-on box
and not a chip so you don't need to open the iic.
