Hallo out there, I am trying to compile a list on the Apple II / IIplus
production details and therefore I would need your help. I am
particularly interested in motherboard and keyboard variants that were
used. With the help of my machines and the ones I have seen on various
websites and ebay I tried to solve many questions but many are still
left unanswered so far:
The first Apple II computers obviously shipped with the Rev. 0
motherboard. I read that these were used until serial numbers reached
the 6000s range (--> can anyone confirm this?). There seem to be two
variants of this board though, one with the light green expansion
slots, the other with the later darker green expansion slots (e.g Phils
restoration project had these --> is this correct Phil ?). The boards
were as far as I have seen hand numbered in the top left corner and the
number seems to indicate the serial number of the board.
An Apple II in the 14000s I have has a Rev. 820-0001-03 main board.
This type of board still has the memory select jumper that could be
removed but the number in the top left corner now seems to indicate
week of production rather than serial number (7901).
Does anybody have an Apple II in between the 6000s and 14000s to get an
idea when Apple changed this, maybe with the introduction of the Rev.
01 mainboard?
Another Apple II in the 39000s I have has a 820-0001-04 main board.
This board still has the memory select jumpers (16/16/16), but they are
soldered to the board now so that with this revision 4096 Rams could
not be used any more. The numbers on the board still indicate week of
production (8004) and the computer shipped in Feb 1980.
When was this board introduced? Does anybody have computers with Sn.
between 14000 and 39000 to check what board these have? I suppose it
might have been introduced with the introduction of the IIplus in mid
1979 that could not accept 4096 Rams any more.
Does anybody have a very low Sn Apple IIplus to check what kind of
motherboard this shipped with?
The highest serial number II I have seen so far was in the 71000s. What
main boards did these late production Apple II computers have? Is there
anybody out there who has one of those, and who could have a look?
The Rev. 07 main board does not have memory select jumpers. Among other
modifications this board allowed the video signals to reach slot#7,
which was used for the PAL interface. The earliest Ireland produced
europlus model I have seen had a main board like this (Sn. 617976 -
numbering of the Ireland production started at 600000 - the main
board was made 8111). The lowest production date of this particular
board I have seen was 8040 in a US production europlus. But I am sure
they used it already earlier -> any opinions on this?
Finally, what about the RFI main board 820-0044-X? I suppose it was
used from ca. mid 1981 on? Does anybody know?
