Apple 1 microchess - correct operation?

Does anyone have experience using the Microchess program that can be
found at - http://www.brielcomputers.com/replica1.html?

I'm trying out various 6502 cores, and threw together a serial only
apple 1-like system for testing since that let's me run some code very
quickly. I'm not sure if my difficulty is user error or bugs in the
6502 cores.

I am apparently able to run figforth and at least some of the basic
programs from the replica1 site, but did find certain versions of cores
that prevented correct operation. One example is the T65 core on
opencores which has problems with ADC (),Y, but a patched version is
available on fpgaarcade.

So if anyone knows exactly how microchess is supposed to behave, or has
a sample transcript then I would appreciate it.

Here's a very short microchess transcript that apparently starts with
an illegal/nonsensical move.
