Special hardware? Well, you can use an old Mac(with an internal floppy) to 
get data from the 1.44MB disks to the Apple II disks.

Apple IIs are a pain to get files onto. You can't directly read the disks 
since PC drives don't understand GCR. And the Apple drives aren't 
intelligent like the Commodore drives(where you use a transfer program).
