Hi,

I have a mouse I was going to share between a 128k Mac and an Apple IIe
but I seem to have an issue... it only reads up and down, but not left
and right. The ball and rollers are clean, but when I removed the one
screw and tilted it open slightly I saw that it has a load of dust balls
inside it... but I can't get it to pop open the rest of the way... is
there something I'm missing here?

Some of the early Mac mice aren't compatible with the Apple II or vice
versa, due to having been made differently by different suppliers... I
know there has been some discussion here about it in the past, so you
could try googling the group. I know from expereince that the one-way
operation is one of the symptoms.
As far as taking it apart goes, the closest one I could find has two
screws underneath, where the cable enters the case... after taking out
both screws the case comes apart about 1/2 inch at the cable end, then
you have to slide the bottom out toward the cable. I imagine yours is
much the same... maybe if it's quite full of lint that might be
preventing it form coming apart... try digging it out with long
tweezers or something...

I should mention that this behavior was on the Mac 128k... I havn't actually tried it on the IIe yet. So is it like this?:

All mice that work with the Apple II mouse card will work on the Mac 128k but not all mice that work with the Mac 128k will work with the Apple II?
