Frankly, I think $200 for any Apple II product is insane and way out
of line unless you only want to sell less than 10. The A2 market is
pretty darn limited as it is.
Unfortunately, once you start with a fat CPLD or FPGA and some RAM, and
getting prototype quantities of cards made, then you're looking at some
pretty expensive boards, even just to get your money back!
Which is why I'd suggest using an FPGA and putting 3-4 peripherals on
there, such as USB (for keyboard, mouse) and Compact Flash interface,
together with the VGA adapter. Make them all appear as legacy Apple II
peripherals so no drivers needed.
The market may bear a higher price for a multi-function card?!?
I understand your thinking; but in my case, I already have solutions
that I am happy with for the other functions suggested, so even
if the card supports multiple functions, it only provides me with
one additional function--VGA compatibility.
I have no problem with the Apple keyboard or mouse (I have an optical
A+ mouse), and I already have CFFA cards.
I suspect others may think similarly.
