Have you actually priced Mac products lately?  They're fairly comparable 
to brand name PC products that are similarly equipped.  I've at various 
times with Dell gotten high end Apple products from $200 more to $200 
less.  (Just don't spend the money on the dealer's RAM...)

Now PC's definitely win on the low end, but that's definitely a stripped 
machine.
