Yes, an AY player has all that d*mn executable code in it.
I remember reading the AY specs, and it sounded very much like the
specs of a TI-99's sound chip. Then after looking at them, and reading
more on it, realized that it had Z80 opcodes in it.
After listening to a few, decided it wasn't worth it.
That last statement goes double for BBC Micro music...
