Yes.  I forget what--a Z180 or something.

All Apple use of the card is mediated by this processor, which is
busy simulating multiple virtual cards.


You can also plug additional buffer low-power SRAM into this socket
(piggybacked on the clock module), which becomes non-volatile memory--
a capability which the card almost certainly does not use (or it would
be under the standard BUF0 chip).



I read somewhere that the card is expandable to 64K - used as buffer
memory for the ports.
And what is a BUF0 chip? 

"Buffer 0" SRAM.

If you want more buffer, you can plug more SRAM into "Buffer 1", and
possibly upgrade the capacity of "Buffer 0" as well.
