Only the sales were against killing the a2. Even a 1/4th the price vic20 was in fact a better machine by then.
With 3.5 KB of RAM (not even contiguous in the memory map, and expandable to a maximum of 19.5KB using Commodore-supplied parts), one expansion slot, 23x22 (or so) characters on the screen, no real hi-res graphics, a BASIC where hardly anything can be accomplished without extensive use of POKE and SYS, and a snail-speed floppy drive that's a more powerful computer than the vic-20 itself, but hanging on a brain-dead serial bus? Not to mention being incompatible with all other (previous or later) Commodore models?
