I have both and have run IDE drives off both as well as CF media off both. (Applied appropriate adapter as necessary.)
They are equally capable interfaces and I really like the CF media. Both are fast as the slot will allow. The main difference is portability, I am much happier moving CF media around than physical HD mechanisms.
I think the CFFA is more convenient for use of CF cards as it has built a built in slot.
I use the microdrive with a DUAL CF slot adapter that I got for about $20 off ebay and I like that a bunch too.
Microdrives are available and shipping right now, CFFAs will be in February.CFFA would be less expensive, the microdrive would satiate the need it now factor. (Of course I'd be willing to sell you one of my CFFA originals, I could ship today...)
