Re: Getting files from a pc => mac => IIGS and/or a IIe

Hi again,

I have checked out the FAQ in the past. I found this section to be the
most useful for what I'm trying to do, but I'm still having problems
... :(

http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/Csa2FLUTILS.html

This section (http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/Csa2T1TCOM.html) would
also be incredibly useful, I'm sure ... except for the fact that I
*don't* have a serial card that I can use. Hopefully soon. There's
less of a market in NZ for such things and postage is often expensive
from overseas.

Anyway, if I follow the suggestions in the first part of the FAQ I
mentioned, I have the following problems ...

I need to get ShrinkIt on the IIGS somehow. However, the problem is
getting a working copy there to start with. I can get it to the Mac
but then the Mac doesn't know what to do with it. If I transfer it to
the IIGS, it is the wrong file type (the IIGS simply doesn't recognise
it) (and I presume has this "resource fork").

So, to change the file type I gather tchange.bin is the way to go.
However, when I transfer that to the Mac, then to the IIGS, same
problem - the IIGS doesn't recognise the file and I can't follow the
advise and directions in this link:
http://groups.google.co.nz/group/comp.sys.apple2/browse_thread/thread/d053b882f1def3f/0b9f68d76e8bc53e?lnk=st&q=%2400+tchange&rnum=1#0b9f68d76e8bc53e
(I hope that works) due to the resource fork.

The other tools that are referenced are all in shk or sdk format (for
which I presume I need ShrinkIt or some such program) and I can't get
any program to do this for me.

Aside from that, I was able to transfer the MacOS 7.5.3 and the 7.5.5
update onto the Mac and they worked without a problem so that's
something. However, that was more of an aside - not really helping the
cause with the IIGS ...

Ummmm, okay, does that make anymore sense?

Oh, also, some tools that may help are referenced to the ground ftp
site (which appears to be down) ... I guess I need something in the
right format that I can run on the Mac that'll sort out the file type
and the resource forking issues ...

If anyone has any suggestions ... ? ... I'm a willing listener/learner
...

:)
Thanks for reading (once again)
Steve
