I was thinking of writing something that does the opposite -- convert a
.nib file into two SST-format .dsk files, so that you can ADT them to a
real Apple and then run SST on it to get a working disk. As I
understand, there's currently no way to get a .nib image back to a real
floppy that will actually work on real hardware. Or am I wrong on this?
Somebody a few months back claimed he did it all the time without any
difficulty. I have not seen many (any?) other reports of success,
though
I'm not sure how many people have actually tried it.
Hello Andy,
I did it the other way without problems -- I converted a non-standard
disk to two standard disks with SST on the real Apple, transferred them
with ADT, then made a working .nib image using a copy of SST that was
running on an emulator. I never managed to do this in the direction PC ->
Apple though.
Greetings,
This is my experience too, the transfer disks seems to contain garbage. A
merged real disk won't boot even. I think it must be a problem in SST vs
emulated nib, reading the track information. If we just knew the SST
transfer disk format we could probably break apart a nib into the two
disks. would it be impossible to figure out the SST format?
Actually the best solution would be if ADT could transfer the nib
directly...
After I realized this problem I thought I might go an alternate way, to
transfer the nib to the //e and to put it on disk there, but then I need
somewhere to store the nib. I could buy a 3.5" 800K drive but it seems to
be impossible to obtain a suitable controller. Anyone have a SuperDrive
controller for sale?
A controller, 140K and 800K in one card, is on the burner, and
being worked on. It WILL be available within the next month or 2.
Please wait if you can. I am also looking at adding 1.4MB ProDOS
capability. Right now I have a problem with the eject buttons not
functioning on 800K, but that should be remedied soon. Thanks.
