I removed all the boards from the hard drive and reseated all the
connectors and ICs and it's changed what the drive does.  Now it seeks
once before giving an error 82.  Before it took a long time and gave
an error 85.  The Mac hard disk utility still returns a -95 error.
The IDE adapter looks interesting, but I think I'll look out for
another widget drive first.  Maybe I can combine two bad ones into one
good one.  

I've read about the external profile drive requiring an apple III and
special ROM to low level format it, but I've found nothing about the
widget drive.  The profile is a completely different drive which uses
a PC style MFM hard drive with an Apple controller.  The widget was
made by apple and is completely proprietary.  

I still haven't made a Lisa boot disk to try, but I've read in several
places that the Lisa OS won't work on a Lisa that has the square pixel
ROMs.  

Some of the links posted by other people look promising.  They lead me
to some pages I hadn't found.
