It's because the Web _is_ so graphics-heavy (mostly with annoying ads) that
some people prefer text browsers. The latest Flash monstrosity won't show
up in Lynx, Links, or whatever.
(As for me, I mostly use text browsers while installing Linux on a box (when
X11 isn't installed yet) or as part of scripts that do screen-scraping. The
rest of the time, Firefox with the Adblock plugin gets rid of most of the
ads and other such crap.)
