But this would not have the effect Rich is aiming for:
"instant on".

I would agree that fast booting from a CFFA or hard disk
makes the point moot in most cases.

A powered RAM disk for fast booting is needlessly complex,
wasteful of energy, and unreliable (since any glitch could
corrupt the data without warning).
