Re: Vtech's Laser 128 computer



I had one of the early Laser 128's and it was great.  Had the card box
that gave slots 5 and 7 - had a Prometheus Pro Modem1200A in one slot
and a Mockingboard C in the other.  Worked prefectly.  Having
previously owned an Apple //c and IIe, I was really impressed with that
machine and used it all the time.

But our school bought a lab full of the later version of the unit to
augment the existing Apple IIe lab.  Those machines were terrible.  At
least once a week, one of them would start smoking (literally) and need
to be taken out of service.  They swapped so many out for replacement
that it wasn't even funny.  I don't know if I was lucky with my older
unit or if it was just a case of them not making 'em like they used to.

I kind of wish I had one of the old units and an expansion box.  Simply
no place to put it though...
