well again not knowing what i'm talking about.
really big emphasis on the above..here goes
would there be a way with the current lance gs setup..(it allows dns right?
to do something like
put it on my network with my tcp/ip version of worlgroup
(www.worldgroupware.com ) or tcp/ip freeware version of the synchronet bbs
(www.synchro.net) and that would allow someone out in the internet world to
ie..find my gs (dns) on the network...then once they went in via the
eithernet connection..maybe some kinda
modified metal/fv using nadanet or some other protocol from that point on?
(hey...that is what my dialout program does for worldgroup and dialout door
programs do in the bbs world...you hit on the tcp/ip bbs setup above..then
you run a door program which serial/modem or ip allows you to connect to
another server within the bbs itself..then they log off apple // serially
connected bbs and viola they are back out of the serial connection and into
the bbs proper...and on inet bbs..
the dialout for worldgroup can be setup for modem/serial...and the bbs door
programs for dialout (do a google search dialout bbs doors..should come up)
should be able to do the same on say a synchronet/wildcat/tbbs...or whatever
as the wg version of dialout...but only got it to work with serial
connection and trpro 4.2f rpg apple // bbs...with fv/metal it worked via a
modem at each end but that ties up a phone line...anyway this is what terry
is trying to work around with his hardware and bbs gateway project...but
maybe the dumb simple solution is just mofify and old bbs fossil dialout
program and use it with standard ms-dos bbs like
wildcat/sycnchronet/tbbs/worldgroup/searchlite whatever...running tcp/ip and
this dialout door program to the apple // bbs..heck i even think mac bbs
programs can run fossil doors....
but anyway...could some dumb simple half ass blending work around work with
coming in on a lance gs card...work..could i with a lance gs card ignore the
tcp/ip problems..mentioned with drivers and simply put the dang card up with
an internal dns number on my home network and simply use one of these
dialout programs and/or door dialout programs available ..to simply by
menu..setup to hit via said programs such and such DNS number of the
fv/metal or whatever apple // bbs and viola..it would hit? could metal/fv be
modified to see the card...even at a ridiculous slow
speed..nadanet/applenet?whatever?>>.(confusion reigns here....)
likely i am simply delusional...but us non-programmer types are a hopeful
bunch...
anyway...i'd settle for anything stable with fv/metal which i have not seen
yet..getting it on the internet and ..just tossing out ideas...
you'd think a serial connection solution would be easier..but no one seems
to have much luck with that yet...at least the fv/metal or gbbs gateway
stuff..
anyway...cut me up in shreds here...use simple language...i confuse easy
my 2c worth
