really wash the keyboard in water?
You can wash the whole keyboard, as long as you use scant amounts
of non-corrosive (non-phosphate) detergent and lots of rinsing in
pure water, followed by water extraction (swinging the keyboard so
that the switches drain rapidly) and drying in warm air, perhaps
with some "key exercise" to hasten drying.
Water washing (distilled) can also be performed locally with a
small spray bottle and a key cap removed, using the same rinsing
and drying regimen as with the whole keyboard.
This is completely safe for Apple keyboards, since they are
real metal contact keyswitches. (Don't try this (without testing)
on membrane keyboards or rubber-switch keyboards.)
