WDC dropped the chip about the same time Jobs started pushing the Macintosh
and ended production of the II series. I spoke with them a few months back
and, according to the salesman and technician I spoke with, they are
*considering* making a new 6502 compatible 32bit chip under a different
project name.
...but I'd take that with a grain of salt until they actually publicise
something about it.
