Does the lantronix emulate a modem? Does it respond to AT commands from the serial port and send modem status codes back? I've got a lantronix box that does serial to ethernet, but it doesn't emulate a modem.

Depends on the Lantronix model. The UDS-10 definitely does, although you
need to turn modem mode on (this is *not* on by default; it's one of the
control bytes).
