Re: //e to IIgs upgrade board ...

are you talking about the kit with the backplate/bottom etc and the //gs
motherboard? or just the motherboard?

you can add the //e power plug and keyboard connector to a standard //gs rom
1 board by soldering the parts in....

i'm not sure if that matters much or not...but cosmetic....

but ....the actual KIT with docs/backplate //e for //gs upgrade of the //e
and the rest..that makes it unique...

also i think sun? and/or all tech electronics was selling a punched out
backplate/bottom plate to convert a //e to a //gs

but they are prob pretty rare as well..so maybe not a big deal collecting
price wise between a 3rdparty kit from those 2? and
a regular //e to //gs upgrade kit..also the rom1 gs motherboard by apple
with both power mods and keybd connector.i've seen
in regular //gs CPU's when apple decided not to make a //e to //gs upgrade
anymore they took (prob a lot) of the dual //gs
cpu's destined for the //e to //gs upgrade path and put them in standard
//gs CPU's....they seem to be more common in
WOZ named //gs CPU's.....in where i have seen them...when i had my //gs
upgrade motherboard fry...i simply dug thru my
10 or so apple //gs boxes and found two with such a mod and swap'ed it into
my //e upgraded machine..viola

anyway..the main thing that makes the whole upgrade unique...was the
replacement //gs logo for the //e logo and
the replacement metal backplate/back to make a //e machine the same as a gs
for ports etc in the rear...

anyway ...if all you have is the //gs motherboard and it has the 2 power
mods..and the keyboard connector and it works..and
fits in the case...who cares....it works ......solder side down....

anyway....thats what i think...

i'd be curious to know that when alltech electronics..(I think or maybe sun
remarketing) sold their versions of the //gs upgrade
bottom backplate conversion kit...if they had their own logo etc to pop in
the front for the //e logo

does anyone here have one of those kits or seen one...? i know they
existed..but not sure how many they moved....

assuming i have the mfg of them right?

anyway..my 2c worth ...maybe others are better informed then me...
