You were given a swap part. Whether it was new or not, dunno - Apple
routinely refurbed defective boards from service returns and once repaired,
cleaned and certified, turned them into swap stock.
Early 01's had a few problems and were either swapped out or had a couple
chips replaced whether they were in or out of warranty - the VGC comes to
mind.
Some ROM 3's (the ones with the light green mobo's) may have some chip
issues too - according to Tony Diaz. I don't have the technical info on
those, other than his recommendation to only keep the dark green mobos, get
rid of the light green ones.
Next time I run into Tony, I'll ask him for clarification.
