anyway...anyone remember what exactly was wrong with the rom 0 model? and
why the recall?

anyway i'd just keep it..and replace it with a rom 1 on ebay..i think they
are hard to find...

Some of the ROM 0 machines had defective VGC chips so when they did the
ROM upgrade they replaced those. The part numbers of the defective VGCs
were 344S0046-1 and 344S0046-A. All other should be good. As I recall
the defect was just some pink fringing.
