Wouldn't that apply to the case when importing cassete data as well?

I believe it's simpler to read or write WAV files than to manipulate the
sound card directly.  You did choose that route when letting Ciderpress
import data from Appple II cassette tapes.  Letting Ciderpress export
data in cassette tape format through a WAV file would be even simpler
still: no need to mess with real-world data with noise, drop-outs and
other imperfections of cassette tape.  Just write (almost) perfect sine
waves to the wave file!  Or don't even bother with sine waves - a
triangular
or swuare wave would most likely work just as fine.
