I haven't looked into it (my IIGS is connected to the LAN through a
GatorBox), but I thought that the serial ports on the beige G3 (like its
floppy drive) weren't supported under Mac OS X. It turns out that I was
half-correct:

They work for RS-232, but not for LocalTalk. With this being the case, I
would think you could put pppd on one of the ports and have Marinetti
connect to it. While that could be useful for sharing an Internet
connection, it won't be all that convenient for sharing files between the
machines. Some sort of LocalTalk-to-Ethernet bridge (like a GatorBox) would
be nice to have if you can track one down inexpensively; in addition to
Internet access through the MacIP link layer in Marinetti, you'd also get
file sharing with Macs (including those that run OS X) and with
Linux/*BSD/etc. boxen running netatalk. I think Microsoft even included AFP
and PAP support in some of its server products, but I have no experience
with using that capability.
