Re: Apple II pdf online somewhere ?
First, you have to understand that, at least here in the US, while the
hardware is woefully outmoded and no-longer industry viable, the information
you're looking still sells
http://www.booksamillion.com/ncom/books?id=2951732996008&type=rare_search&find=%22Apple+II%22&x=5&y=6
You may need to do some cutting and pasting on that link. But put simply,
those of us who are considered "die-hard" don't mind paying a little to get
the information we want. It's not free because in part, the industry still
uses the info. I've been trying for a while now to get Apple Computers to
release the ROM code for the Apple ][ series to the public domain, but
strangely enough, they won't. I'd guess it's because of the BASIC in ROM.
Since Apple had Microsoft write the code for that, and QBasic (now Visual
BASIC) is based on it.... I'm sure you can see where that gets us.
The bottom line? We're not being snobs for having our bookshelves already
stocked with most of the info we need already. We're just telling you that,
so as not to put our bacon in the fire, you need to go buy the stuff the
same way we did. When the publishers and copywright holders stop being
tightwads about this outdated information, then we'll most likely have it
posted in no time flat. But until then, you either have to buy the info or
try to muddle through with the fragments of info that are currently free.
As far as your attitude is concerned, well, it doesn't pay to act like an
arrogant, obnoxious, pompous, jackass to the people you're trying to ask for
help. Sure, I understand that some of that is based on your culture and what
is accepted there. I also understand that some things get lost in
translation, but TACT isn't one of them. And note that is piece of advice is
coming from someone who is admittedly low on tact. Before you jump to
conclusions on how "elitist" we may or may not be, try to understand what
we're telling you first. If you still don't get it, keep your cool and ask
for clarification. You'll find we're a lot more helpful when we're not
offended.
