here is the ebay plug.. a very modified apple //e...that you can see with
the pic..this is a very odd comercially modified apple //e for science
purposes

This apple IIe was made in about 1985 and was in good condition to my
knowledge when i turned it on a couple days ago. It is modified for dapple
image analysis. It will include: printer 2 disk drives, mouse, computer,
keyboard, monitor, and all the needed cables except for the printer cable
which came off and will probably need to be replaced. The screen is 9.5 by 7
inches. This computer will come with some programs but you probably not be
able to find any more because it is so old. This computer would be good for
parts also.
ok...except for very modified //e with extra dials and gizmos
picture......and the statement "modified for dapple image analysis" and a
couple other things mentioned..when contacting the guy for info...he
mentioned it had an 'acclerator //e' and proslot card and other mods....this
dapple image analysis was used on electron microscopes back in the
day....and also sonar or whatever.....i think it was someone on
comp.sys.apple (bill g?) who pointed me to a resume of a guy who filled me
in....essentially this apple //e took video from a video camera and modified
it to graphs...image anaylisis etc etc...i tried reading the manual got like
2 paragraphs into it ..and my head started to hurt and i was lost....so you
have video or a pic and you run image analysis on said data thru these
special dapple cards and apple modified o/s via ramdisk accelator etc..and
viola you then plot data from your electron microscope pic...and chart graph
look for ufo's with it or whatever...
anyway...i'd add some pics..it is pretty wild looking inside...but my
digital camera is crap....again i refer you to the ebay pic above...
anyway...inside...it has what seems to be an applied engineeering heavy duty
power supply...it has a ramworks card w/piggy back on it...3 meg i think? it
has a grappler plus printer card..it has a scientific but production guality
card by 'red shift ltd' with two video port cables coming out...it has an
accelerator card the //'accelerator //e' model but it has an 'dapple
systems' sticker on a chip on the card..not sure it they souped it up or
not? .it has a 3.5" drive card LIRON card in slot 6 (nothing is in slot 5)
.i forgot to mention the dapple video card is in slot 3...it has a proslot
card (which is a card i never heard of before..it is the size of the apple
3.5" controller card...but has two slots horizontal....so that card plugs
into slot 7 and mounted sideways on it off the end of slot 7 is another red
shift production quality card with cables going to the micro tuning dials on
the front of the modified apple //e....the second card mounted sideways
horizontal off the proslot card is a standard //e mousecard/with mouse
arrangement..... also inside is a heavily modified paddle adapple brand game
port switch mounted in front of the ae powersupply ..with what looks like a
modified chip inside and the game port cable heading off to i assume the
game i/o port.lots of jumpers and wires bouncing around said modified
chip...also mounted as mentioned before where the keyboard used to be is a
couple of very very fine tuning controls of some kind...it also has an
extenal metal extended keyboard with more dials....along with 2 unidisk
drives software and manuals...the manuals are a tech manual and an imageplus
plus manual and some special disks 6 or 7..with their special operating
system...the roms on the apple //e have also be modified....
anyway..it boots a special software package called " scientific
microprograms MSMS memory and disk management system for the enhanced apple
//e"
this apple // OS uses both sides of the disk...is a modified dos 3.3
..claims to be much faster then prodos...and essentially runs everthing
from (i think it is) a 3meg ramdisk setup inside the apple //e)....the image
analysis cards do their magic and then from a scientific menu of various
options i can barely get thru with the scientific jargon....you then play
god i guess with your apple //e and electron microscope in the lab...and do
kackling laughs as you manipulate data..(or so i assume i read some more of
the manual ..and my head hurt again and i had to take a nap)
anyway...does anyone have (or played with) one of these beasts? and is it as
rare as i expect it is? (heck they even knocked out the apple //e label on
the front and put in a dapple systems label instead"....and if so ...can i ?

CLAIM BRAGGING RIGHTS TO HAVING AN APPLE //E THAT CAN RUN AN ELECTRON
MICROSCOPE?......COOL....
of course....i'm not smart enough to figure out the manual..so that an't
likely...i'd ever get it to work...not to mention it is probably a crime to
actually part this beast out....i turn it on..and everything works...or
seems too...menus come up...and the silly //e actually looks like it expects
me to do something important with it...again an't likely...and considering
the rom modifications...suspected accelerator modifications...etc...i doubt
anyone could get one of these up again if they tried...i was actually
shocked it actually booted up...if one wire would have popped loose ...i
never would have figured it out...but seems to work like a champ
anyway check the pic out...from the defunct ebay link....i guess i saved it
from a dumpster end...if anyone else has one of these contact me or for that
manner ever ran one in a lab someplace in university or some such....i guess
i'll encase it in rubbermaid containers like the rest of my stuff i seem to
save and never do anything with...or at least much (the 15 sider drives
cheer from bsmt)...
if the great minnesota earthquake hits ...archeologists will......find much
to marvel at in my apple // rubbermaid encased basement
anyway....let me know if i have bragging rights or not...and if some one has
something that can run the hubble space telescope or something fire away..we
will make it a contest..
(i of course bow in awe of all those apple 1 users out there...i am not
worthy.....)
anyway that was my basic nerdy friday nite....(note to self must get digital
camera..decent one)
